Extraordinary general assembly of the Association of Banks in Lebanon: Approval of the new collective labor agreement, and wishes for maintaining the governor of the Banque du Liban in office  -  February 8, 2017

On Tuesday February 7th, 2017, at noon, the Association of Banks in Lebanon held at its headquarters in Saifi - Beirut, an extraordinary general assembly to study the draft of the collective labor agreement for the years 2016 and 2017, and decided to approve it. This approval comes in the context of legal proceedings, which requires that each of the general assembly of the Association of Banks and the Union of Bank Employees approve the agreement that was initially signed on December 21st, 2016 by ABL President, Dr. Torbey, and the President and Secretary General of the Union, Messrs. Georges El Hage and Hikmat El Sayyed,  on the new version of the agreement, which was mostly concentrated on the mechanism of the hospitalization fund for bank employees after they reach the retirement age.

At the outset of ABL general assembly, President Torbey delivered a speech stressing on the importance of the agreement in maintaining the stability of the sector and the regularity of work in its institutions, and which secures the conditions of a decent and dignified life for banks’ employees.  

On this occasion, Dr. Torbey pointed out to the hopes raised by the banking sector in the era of President Michel Aoun, and the new government headed by Mr. Saad Hariri, focusing especially on the need to perform a number of pending economic reforms, that makes Lebanon a magnet for capital investments in light of a wise monetary policy that maintained  the economic and monetary stability, and wishing that the concerned authorities will keep the governor Mr. Riad Salameh in office, to ensure the stability of achieved successes at every level.
