Banque Libano-Française (BLF) held a panel on “Innovation for Sustainability” on September 22, 2016, during the Beirut Energy Forum at Le Royal Hotel, Dbayeh.
Panelists Nicole Gemayel, President of Bickfaya – Mhaydsse Municipality, and “Bi Clean” project, Karim Haddad, Deputy General Manager of Sicomo, Rabih Osta, Area General Manager of Phoenix Group, as well as moderator Maurice Iskandar, Assistant General Manager and Member of the Executive Committee at BLF, discussed issues and initiatives pertaining to waste management in Lebanon.
Following the discussion, BLF, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP - Lebanon) awarded the three winners of the last annual MasterCard Earth Card Competition under the “Solid Waste Management” theme. The 2016 awards brought the total amount granted to the competition of green projects over the past five years to USD 200,000, generated by the revenues of the BLF Earth MasterCard credit card which was launched in 2011.
The 2016 winners are “Baladna” and “Nidaa el Ard” for their project “Recycling of organic waste through vermicomposting in Arab Salim”, “Collège Elysée Hazmieh” for their project “ABC3D recycling”, and “Little Push” for their “SORTED Outsmart Your Garbage” application.
