One year after launching the “BLOM MasterCard Giving Program”, BLOM Bank announces the removal of 26,000 mines from all Lebanese territories. “BLOM MasterCard Giving” cardholders assisted in the demining process by just owning or using their cards for their daily purchases or ATM withdrawals without bearing any extra cost.

BLOM Bank had initially launched the “BLOM MasterCard Affinity Card” in 2010 combining the benefits of holding a MasterCard credit or debit card and financially assisting the Lebanese Mining Action Center, a unit of the Lebanese Army Forces which is in charge of demining the Lebanese territory. The Card is the first of its kind in the world, and the most successful affinity card in Lebanon, if not the Middle East.

The program was awarded the Best Cause for 2010 in the MENA Crystal Awards, and received recognitions from General Jean Kahwaji, the Lebanese Army Commander, and Mr. Michael Williams, United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon.

With this card, the Lebanese consumer can benefit from a feature – rich card while at the same time supporting a very humane and patriotic cause. After dropping the number of mines from 425,000 to 399,000 in just one year, BLOM Bank is now more determined to free Lebanon from the danger of mines and spread once more “Peace of Mind” on all Lebanese territories.
